_ runit - a UNIX init scheme with service supervision

runit is a daemontools alike replacement for SysV-init and other init schemes.
runit currently runs on Debian GNU/Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD,
and may be easily adapted to other unix operating systems.
runit implements a simple three-stage concept.
Stage 1 performs the system's one-time initialization tasks.
Stage 2 starts the system's uptime services (via the runsvdir program).
Stage 3 handles the tasks necessary to shutdown and halt or reboot.

The runit programs are compiled and linked statically with the diet libc.

 See http://smarden.org/runit/ for more information.

This package does not replace the /sbin/init binary.
To do so you need to follow the documentation or install the runit-run package.

_ runit-run - a UNIX init scheme with service supervision

runit is a daemontools alike replacement for SysV-init and other init schemes.
runit currently runs on Debian GNU/Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD,
and may be easily adapted to other unix operating systems.
runit implements a simple three-stage concept.
Stage 1 performs the system's one-time initialization tasks.
Stage 2 starts the system's uptime services (via the runsvdir program).
Stage 3 handles the tasks necessary to shutdown and halt or reboot.

 See http://smarden.org/runit/ for more information.

This package replaces the /sbin/init binary and configures runit to run as process no 1 after the next reboot.

_ grokking-the-gimp - GIMP tutorial book by Carey Bunks (HTML)

This is the HTML version of "Grokking the GIMP",
an excellent introduction to the GIMP and to image processing in general.
It covers the basic GIMP tools, layers, selections, masks, color spaces,
color manipulations, photo touch-up and enhancement, compositing, shadows,
punch-outs, bevels, and how to use the GIMP to create online content
(animated GIFs, clickable image maps etc).

"Grokking the GIMP" is very readable and includes lots of example graphics.

 It is recommended that you use a browser with proper support for PNGs to read this book;
newer versions of Mozilla (or Galeon) are known to work.

_ desktop-base - common files for the Debian Desktop

This package contains various miscellaneous files which are used by Debian Desktop installations.
Currently, it provides some Debian-related artwork and themes,
.desktop files containing links to Debian related material
(suitable for placement on a user's desktop),
and other common files between the available desktop environments such as GNOME and KDE.

_ e1000-source - Intel gigabit ethernet driver kernel module source code.

This package contains the source code for the e1000 kernel module, used to drive Intel gigabit NICs.

_ darcs-load-dirs - Import upstream archives into darcs

Darcs works fine for importing new archives, However, for situations where the upstream renames of moves files and directories on a regular bases, version information can be lost.

darcs-load-dirs works with darcs to import these things and preserve changes.
It works on a principle similar to Subversion's svn_load_dirs or my tla_load_dirs package for Arch.

_ kturtle - educational Logo programming environment

KTurtle is an educational programming environment using the Logo programming language.
It tries to make programming as easy and accessible as possible.
This makes KTurtle suitable for teaching kids the basics of mathematics, geometry and programming.

The commands used to program are in the style of the Logo programming language.
The unique feature of Logo is that the commands are often translated into the speaking language of the programmer.

KTurtle is named after "the turtle" that plays a central role in the programming environment.
The user programs the turtle, using the Logo commands, to draw a picture on the canvas.

Note that this version of Logo is only focused on the educational qualities of the programming language and will not try to suit professional programmers' needs.

This package is part of the official KDE edutainment module.

It includes KWallet support.

_ spampd - a spamassassin based SMTP/LMTP proxy daemon

spampd is a SMTP/LMTP server designed to be hooked into the MTA processing chain (e.g. as a content filter).
It is written in Perl and uses the Net::Server framework.
It is intended to provide spam filtering at the system level (i.e. ususally for all users).
If you rely on per-user configuration or per-user Bayes databases, spampd is not for you.

The major advantage of spampd over plain SpamAssassin (both directly and through spamd) is that it doesn't need to load all needed perl modules on every invocation or spawn a C programme for every mail it receives.
Compared to using spamc/spamd, spampd can usually provide a 25% performance with local-only tests.

The advantage of spampd over amavisd-new is that it uses the original SpamAssassin header tags, which are more verbose than the tags which amavisd-new provides.
This allows easier filtering in the mail client and easier tuning of SpamAssassin.

_ sylpheed-claws-pgpinline-plugin - PGP-inline checking/decryption plugin for Sylpheed Claws

This plugin enables signature verification of digitally signed messages and decryption of encrypted messages created using the PGP inline method for the Sylpheed Claws mail client.

(Separate clients for KDE and WindowMaker also exist)

Gtk-imonc displays, online status, traffic info, router status, calls and connections when logging is activated on the router.
You can control dialing, system shutdown, different circuits (LCR), channel bundling, hup-timeout of ipppd devices

_ printconf - Automatically configures USB and parallel printers with CUPS

Foomatic is a printing system designed to make it easier to set up common printers for use with Debian (and other operating systems).
It provides the "glue" between a print spooler (like CUPS) and your actual printer, by telling your computer how to process files sent to the printer.

This package detects printers attached to the parallel or USB ports of your computer, and automatically establishes printer queues using Foomatic for those printers.
These queues can be managed using the CUPS web interface at http://localhost:631/ or by using the Foomatic-GUI tool.

Some low-end inkjet and laser printers that use proprietary languages (sometimes erroneously called "WinPrinters" or "GDI printers") will require either the foo2zjs or pnm2ppa package to work.

_ axyl - The Axyl web development platform

Axyl is a website development tool aimed at Php developers. It provides a framework for all the commonly required elements: user sessions, menus and security, database connections (with DB-independent layer) and versioned content management (includes the HTMLArea wysiwyg editor), together with a large set of building blocks and frameworks for building content delivery applications.

An additional benefit is complete integration with the optional axyl-lucene package which provides industrial-strength text indexing and search.

Axyl also uses a template-driven approach and themes, both of which allow the creation of websites which separate the look from the functionality.

* Can fetch EXIF header data from digicam photos
* Can optionally recurse directory trees
* Index, detail, slide, and frame views.

For performance, links can be checked simultaneously.

This package is part of the official KDE web development module.

GmailFS is a Python application and uses the FUSE userland filesystem infrastructure to help provide the filesystem, and libgmail to communicate with Gmail.

To use GmailFS, please use fuse-source to compile appropriate modules for your running kernel.

GmailFS supports most file operations such as read, write, open, close, stat, symlink, link, unlink, truncate and rename.
This means that you can use all your favourite unix command line tools to operate on files stored on Gmail (e.g. cp, ls, mv, rm, ln, grep etc. etc.).
